I'm Affiliated!

Over the last few weeks some of you might have noticed some changes taking place here at the blog. If so, you're very observant, good for you (no, you can't have a cookie, I ate them all...).

One of those changes is a little banner over at the side of the blog (indirection). It looks like a banner, it smells like a banner, it even tastes like a banner! But what it actually is.... is an affiliate link! Yes, that's right, an affiliate link! And it features the Fun Factory LayaSpot (review coming soon!)

But what is an affiliate link you ask? Good question, you're very smart (but seriously, no cookies, stop asking)! The link allows you to buy products from edenfantasys (toys, lubes, lingerie  whatever your dirty little heart desires), and it allows me to get a small kick-back from that sale.

Full disclosure:  this is a way for me to make some sweet sweet $$$ off of this blog.

But don't worry, you don't have to pay $0.01 extra on your purchase, and in fact, you don't have to purchase anything at all if you don't want to. I won't be hurt, I promise (I'll just be over here in the corner sulking...). On the other hand, if you do feel like buying one of the products I've featured in a review (or anything else, for that matter), I would appreciate it if you'd like to use my affiliate link, because I'll get a small kick-back. And we're talking really small here folks, about 20%. So if you're buying I Love Female Orgasm (which I highly recommend ) for $15.99, I'll get a kick-back of somewhere around $3.20.
In case you can't tell, I'm not really in this blogging business for the money. Sure an extra 3 bucks here and there would be nice, but I'm not going to starve without it, and I don't want any of you to feel pressured to make a purchase.
I just wanted to let you guys know that it's an option, and if you feel so inclined as to use it, that's great. If not? That's totally fine too. I love you folks anyway.

Seriously, big kisses!

What the Heart Desires

My review for Evolved's Desire was the third review I ever wrote, and it's still up over at edenfantasys (if you'd like to check it out there, please do!).

Desire by Evolved

The Desire is a “traditional” vibrator made by Evolved Novelties. Like other Evolved toys, Desire comes in a lovely little metal box with a foam insert:

The box has little clasps on the side to close it, and it works as great toy storage. I’ve had this toy for years and I still use the box to store it in.

The Desire is made out of hard plastic and has raised ridges along the length of it for added sensation. Because the body of the toy is made out of plastic, it is compatible with water-based and silicone-based lubricants. The plastic might be hard, but it has a nice satiny feel to it that glides along skin easily, especially when paired with lube. For me this was a big difference from my matte-silicone toys, which can sometimes drag uncomfortably when inserted. Clean up is fairly easy, the Desire can simply be washed with soap and water. I recommend an anti-bacterial soap for added cleanliness.

Okay, now for some specs:
It has a total length of 7.25”, with 6 of those inches insert-able. The circumference of the toy is listed as 4”, but that will vary slightly because of the different raised ridges. The diameter is 1.25”, but again that will vary along the length of the toy.

At only 0.3 lbs (not including batteries), the Desire is a fairly light-weight toy. And speaking of batteries, it takes 2 AAs.

*A note on material*
Like I said, the Evolved Desire is made out of hard plastic. And while it is food-grade material, hypo-allergenic, latex free and phthalates free, it cannot be sterilized, and therefore you should not share it without using a condom.

The Desire is waterproof, which means that it can be enjoyed in the shower or the tub (or the pool if you have one, which I do not). While using toys in the shower isn’t usually my thing, I did test this one out in the tub, because I wanted to make sure that it could hold up to its waterproof claim. As you can see from the picture, the Desire passed this test with flying colors (or bubbles).

There are three different vibration settings on the toy, which can be cycled through by pressing the button on the very bottom of the vibrator. The button also turns the toy on and off. This means that in order to turn the toy off, you need to cycle through all of the vibration speeds. For example…

  • First click = Turn the toy on, lowest speed.
  • Second click = Toy moves to medium speed.
  • Third click = Toy moves to fastest speed.
  • Fourth click = Toy turns off.

While I’ll admit that this feature can be slightly annoying, it hasn’t really been an issue for me. The button is fairly easy to reach, even when the toy is inserted and the speeds can be cycled through very quickly in case you need to turn the thing off in a hurry.

The button ↑
The Desire was one of the very first toys I ever bought, and I’ve had it for years. It has held up over the test of time and proved to be a great vibrator and a great investment in my future as a sex toy collector. When I bought this toy, the majority of items I had were made out of jelly and very flimsy, so this toy really seemed like the highest of quality to me. And it was (is)! Evolved is a company that certainly knows how to make lasting toys.

While the Desire can obviously be used internally, it’s not my preferred method of use. I’ve used it internally only a handful of times over the years that I’ve owned it, and even then, only when I’ve had a good work-up first with either fingers or another toy. For me the problem is those raised ridges that I mentioned earlier in my review. They’re great if you really love texture in a vibrator, but they just really don’t do much for me personally. I want to stress that this isn’t a “con” of the toy, and I wouldn't list it as such, because this has nothing to do with the toy itself and everything to do with my personal preference.

When I do use the Desire internally, the vibrations feel nice. I like internal vibrations, but I guess that I must like strong internal vibrations, because the Desire just doesn’t do much for me in that department. I love my toy too much to take it apart, so I don’t know exactly where the motor is, but I can venture a strong guess that it’s near the tip of the toy. Which means that if you want to use the Desire as a clitoral stimulator, you’ll have much better luck.

This is the way that I primarily use the Desire, and it works wonderfully! The vibrations are pin-pointed in the tip and I can direct them to whichever area of my clit or vulva that I want. There are three speed settings on the Desire, and while I usually like strong and fast, the medium setting is enough to get me off (Internally, I use the fastest setting). I also enjoy cycling through the speed settings for some variation, but since you have to turn the toy off to do that, it does get a bit annoying.

Overall the Desire is a great toy for internal or external use. Personally I prefer to use it externally, but I know that there are a lot of people out there who simply love texture in a way that I don’t. If you’re one of those people, you just might find that you desire this toy!

*TL:DR?*

The Evolved Desire is a great “traditional” vibrator. While the internal vibrations can be a little weak, the toy works great for clitoral stimulation. This is a toy that I would recommend to people who enjoy texture and multiple speed settings. This is an inexpensive (you can pick one up for less than $30), quality toy that has stood the test of time, and one that I hope to have for many more years to come!

Like I said before, this review first appeared over at edenfantasys, and I'd love it if you went to check it out there (you can even vote on it if you feel so inclined...). Stay tuned for more new reviews to be coming soon. I'm still summing up all of my experiences with LELO's Luna Beads (so look for that sometime in the near future), and I'm still working on mastering Randy (otherwise known as The Beast).

What's Not to Love?

This review is a little bit different than my others. It's a review of a book, not a sex toy, so bear in mind when reading, there won't be any mention of whirling parts or battery compartments. It's a book people.

I Love Female Orgasm
by Dorian Solot & Marshall Miller

I picked up Dorian Solot & Marshall Miller's book I Love Female Orgasm a number of years ago. I was
browsing through the "Sexual Health" section of my local Major-Chain-Bookstore and when I spotted this gem. I'll be honest, it was the cover that drew me in. "I Love Female Orgasm" it boldly proclaims. "Well," I though, "who doesn't?"
I sat down and flipped through some of the pages, browsing charts and diagrams and reading a few paragraphs here and there. In the introduction, Dorian Solot mentions that she was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 26. She says what saved her life was the fact that she found the lump very early, and attributed that to the fact that she was comfortable touching her body and her breasts.

Being comfortable and confident in her sexuality literally saved her life. When I read that, I knew that I had to have this book. I wanted it badly enough that I took it up to the counter of the Major-Chain-Bookstore (where my dad is a frequent patron) and purchased it on the spot.

The book is basically a how-to manual for having an orgasm. It has sections about using fingers, tongues, penises and toys. It gives you all the information you could want about oral and anal sex and about how to find and utilize your g-spot. And all throughout it has definitions (for example, what exactly is “female ejaculation”?), tips, and tricks.
One thing I particularly love is that the book is constantly stressing important information about communication and safe sex. There’s an entire chapter about condoms and birth-control including a very helpful chart that gives quick facts about different types of protection.
Another thing I loved is that unlike many sex guides out there, this book does not assume that if you are female you must be in a relationship with a male. I Love Female Orgasm is very inclusive, and has an entire chapter dedicated to LGBTQ issues (“Coming with Pride: Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Straight-but-Adventurous Orgasms”).

I would recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of female orgasms. It’s very well-organized and has a wonderful index that is very easy to use. The first time I read this book I read it cover to cover and had a blast doing so. I’ve picked it up many times since then to get specific information about a topic that I was interested in at the time. The way that the book is arranged and set up makes it very easy to do that. For example, if you are interested in learning more about the g-spot you can just head to that chapter, or poke around in the index.
Finally, and I feel that this has to be said, this book (while extremely entertaining) is a reference book, and is meant to be used as such - which means that (thankfully) the authors do not use cutesy language in their book (though they invite you to if you’d like).

I paid $15.99 for this book, and I can promise you that it was worth it!

I Love Female Orgasm is a well-organized reference manual for orgasms. It will take you through the basics of female anatomy and teach you everything you need to know about how to have an orgasm. It also provides information about a variety of other topics, including: safe sex, sex toys, oral sex, and anal sex. The book is a must have for any true lover of female orgasms.

This book talks about the history of the dildo, what’s not to love?

This review first appeared over at edenfantasys, and is in fact still there if you would like to go read it or vote for it.

Also, if you'd like your own copy of this fabulous book, you can purchase one from the aforementioned edenfantasys, or somewhere else, like perhaps amazon.com.

The Closest I've Ever Come...

This is the second review that I ever wrote and first appeared over at EdenFantasys, where you can still check it out and vote on it.

Pure Wand by nJoy

First of all, before I start this review properly, there's something that you should know about me. I have never had an orgasm without something (or someone) touching my clit. Never-ever. I wish that I could pause here dramatically and say... "until now!" but alas, that simply wouldn't be true. But that's not to say that the Pure Wand isn't a fantastic toy, it really is, and I'm going to try to convey that to you in this little review.
New Toy
The Pure Wand is made by nJoy, and comes in this fabulous box, which it turn comes in a very nice sleeve.
I was immediatly impressed by the packaging, because I think that the attention that a company pays to these kind of details (how well the packaging is made and presented) suggests attention to detail when it comes to making quality toys

The toy itself is very, very heavy. It reminds me of those Mag-Lites that my camp counselors used to threaten us misbehaving campers with every summer. It's 3 lbs of solid stainless steel, which this site (EdenFantasys) describes as "a ferrous alloy with a minimum of 10.5% chromium content." The larger head has a diameter of 1 1/2" and a circumference of 5 whopping inches. The small head has a diameter of 1", and a circumference of 3.14159" (my fiance points out that the circumference is actually 3.14" because there are only 3 sig-figs on his calipers...).

The stainless steel is a great material in many ways. It's smooth and seamless, which is always a plus when you're going to be inserting something somewhere sensitive (trust me on that one). It's super easy to clean and can be sterilized, which means that you don't have to use a condom with this toy if you're planning on sharing it with a friend or partner. You just need to boil the toy between uses.

Another great feature of stainless steel is that if you're into temperature play, this thing can get really friggin' cold. This is something that's important to remember even if you're not into temperature play (actually, especially if you're not into temperature play), steel gets cold people! Please keep this in mind before you insert it into any of your orifices! It does warm up fairly quickly though (I suggest a nice soak in some mildly hot water), and will of course warm up as you use it.

Experience:

I had heard bards sing epic ballads about the greatness of the Pure Wand. It is sometimes claimed by those in the know that the Pure Wand is the toy mentioned in the mysterious 'lost' passages of Chaucer's The Miller's Tale. This is truly a toy of legendary proportions...

Okay, I'm exaggerating here folks, but not by a lot. Pretty much everyone that I talk to about sex toys heavily praises the Pure Wand. It is known as the toy for G-spotting. So, I figured I would try it out, what have I got to lose, right?

So I bought myself the Pure Wand, desperately hopping that the whopping $107.99 I shelled out (for about 41.50 worth of steel I might add) would be worth it. And honestly, I have to say that it is! I started out with the smaller end, inserting it so that the large head curved up toward my belly-button. I was able to find my G-spot fairly easily even with the small head, and the cool steel felt amazing pressing up against it. I thrusted a few times experimentally and I practically jumped out of the bed. I had never in my life experienced such intense sensations coming from my G-spot. Clit, yes. G-spot, no, never before. I immediately switched to the larger head and I was not disappointed! The sensations were just as intense, but almost felt magnified over a slightly larger area.

For the first few moments I kind of felt like I had to pee, but since I had read that this was normal (and I'd already taken care of that) I was able to just relax and enjoy it. The weird 'have-to-pee' sensation passed fairly quickly and melted into an amazing pleasure.

I had read (and heard plenty of stories about) women who could actually ejaculate just by thrusting with the Pure Wand, and I was so excited to do that. But alas, it wasn't mean to be. I've tried several different angles and positions, and while they all feel phenomenal, none of them has allowed me to be able to squirt like I'd dreamed of. But that's okay - I'm not alone. I set up a little informal poll over on the forums (at EdenFantasys), and 18 people were kind enough to weigh in on the issue. 61% of them said that they were not able to come just by thrusting with the Pure Wand, but that it was still a very enjoyable experience (28% of people did claim to not only be able to come, but to squirt too!).

While I'm still holding out hope that one day I will be able to achieve an orgasm just by thrusting it up against my G-Spot, I'm not going to let that goal ruin my enjoyment of the toy. Moral of the story? Even if you can't come just by using this toy, you should still try it out! I promise you that it's an intense ride that you won't soon forget!

We looked it up, but couldn't find the Pure Wand in the AISC Steel Construction Manual (14th edition), but maybe it'll be in the 15th?

You can get your very own Pure Wand straight from nJoy, or from EdenFantasys.com.

*UPDATE*

(Originally posted several weeks after the initial review)

It's official, I want to change the title of my original review... Why you might ask? When I was writing my original review (after many happy experiments with nJoy's legendary toy), I had never yet been able to come without some form of clitoral stimulation. I had heard that it was possible to do so with the Pure Wand, and I wanted the title of my review to be a nod to that rumor/legend.

Now, however, I can say that it is not just rumor, not pure speculation. I have officially had a non-clitoral orgasm! And I owe it all to the Pure Wand. I'll admit that it took some time and some figuring out. I'm not well acquainted with my G-spot (so there was some maneuvering involved in trying to find the exact right placement of the toy), but I can already tell that we're going to be good friends. Now I haven't squirted or anything like that (yet), but I'm hoping that that's right around the corner for me.

If there are any women out there who doubt their ability to come from vaginal stimulation alone, I highly (very very very highly) recommend the Pure Wand. Buy it, play with it, learn something amazing about yourself and your body. And most of all, "nJoy" it!

Just Follow the Bouncing Balls...

I'm going to be honest with you folks, this was the very first toy review I ever wrote (way back in November). It got a pretty good reception over at EdenFantasys (where it was originally published), and I'm still proud of it.

SmartBalls by FunFactory

The SmartBalls are Kegel exercisers that are meant to encourage you to get your PC muscles in great shape. They're fun to use, though I actually prefer them for their intended use rather than strictly as a sex toy.

I've included some rather well known items in this picture so that you can get a sense of the actual size of the balls. The dimensions are approximately 1 3/8" diameter and 4 1/2" circumference, but I think the picture gives a pretty good idea of what size they are.

The toy consists of two balls joined together with a fairly seamless band right in the middle. Each ball is hollow and has a small weight inside of it that you can feel rolling around and producing wonderful rumbling sensations. A small pull cord made of the same material as the toy allows for quick and easy removal when you're done playing.

The balls are made out of FunFactory's Elastomed, which can be easily cleaned with an antibacterial toy cleaner and water. The nicest thing about this material, in my opinion, is that you can use water based and silicone based lubes with it. though you might not need any at all. The material claims to be "Hypo-allergenic / Latex free / Non-porous / Phthalates free" and I have no reason to doubt any of those claims. While pure silicone will always be my first love, it just isn't a practical material for all toys, and for these hollow weighted balls, Elastomed was a great choice.

Like I said, I tend to use this toy strictly for its intended use as a Kegel exerciser, and not so much as a sex toy, though I have successfully incorporated it into my foreplay on a few occasions. While the sensations that it produced inside of me are lovely, they aren't nearly strong enough to get me off or do much more than get my engine going.
I have to admit though, that when paired with a clitoral stimulator (your basic run-of-the-mill vibrator will do fine), I can get off with no problems, and I very much enjoy the sensation of the weights in the balls rolling around as I come.

Experience:

First of all, I have to say that initially, I was skeptical about the SmartBalls, I debated over them intensely with my boyfriend before finally making the purchase. Part of this hesitation was me being indecisive, and part of it was that I just wasn't sure if Kegel exercisers were going to be the right toy for me. I had read reviews for other such items (some of them in Cosmo, of all places), and thought that the idea was splendid. A way the strengthen my PC while having some form of sex? Count me in!

So I bought the SmartBalls and immediatly went home to play with them. The first thing I did was hold them in my hand and shake them around for about 20 solid minutes. I felt like I had one of those dumb-ass shake weights you see on the TV commercials, but I just couldn't stop! I was hypnotized by the feel of those magical little balls rolling, bouncing and rumbling around in my hand. If they were so much fun to play with in my hand, I absolutely couldn't wait to see what they would feel like in my vagina.

Getting them in took a little bit of work. The balls are each about 1 3/8" in diameter (that's the measurement across the widest part) and about 4 1/2" in circumference (that's the measurement about the widest part). Once I did get them in however I was very pleased with how well they sat and how unobtrusive they were. I had worried that the little pull cord would be obvious, but I honestly hardly even noticed it.
When I got them in I wiggled around a little bit, hoping to feel the intense rumbling I had felt when playing with them in my hand. At that, I was more than a little disappointed. While I could feel something rumbling around in there, it was hardly the Earth-shattering sensation that I had been hoping for.

They're pretty great as Kegel exercisers though. If I'm wearing them while I do chores (cleaning, grocery shopping, etc) I can definitely feel them, and it reminds me to do my PC exercises. They're fun to squeeze around and I absolutely love the way that I can feel them slide back into place as I relax my muscles. And like I said, I can feel those rumbling sensations that I loved, just not as intensely as I would have liked.

Over all, the SmartBalls are a fun way to keep your PC muscles in good shape, and remind you to do your exercises. While they do feel pretty darn good, the sensation is no where near enough to get me off. But that's okay, I like using the balls more as exercisers than as sex toys.

This review first appeared over at EdenFantasys. Thanks for reading!

*Just a note, I paid for the SmartBalls myself, they were not given to me in exchange for my opinion or review*

You can get a pair of the SmartBalls for yourself at EdenFantasys (since this particular set doesn't seem to be for sale on the FunFactory site anymore).
